I would recommend calling them to find out
Excellent crab cakes. Haddock was unique but tasty. Really nice medley of roasted vegetables. There was some confusion about my husband's meal but the waitress had it sorted out and it arrived surprisingly quickly, piping hot. Their flight of Big Spruce was nice- the red ale and sour were favourites.
Very good food, pleasant staff but placed our order and we're then ignored entirely x 40 minutes until the food finally arrived. Very delicious and equally unimpressed.
The food was fantastic. The carrot cake is perfection.
We were seated at approximately 1:40, at 2:30 asked how much longer the food would be. We're told it would be atleast 2:45 before we would have the food at best. Normally that would be a bit annoying but fine - if only we hadn't witnessed the chef toking up just before we were seated... Really professional. Atleast the waitress was smart enough to comp our drinks.
Ideal fresh meal. This place is wonderful made to order fresh If you’ll like good simple local meals. Pick this place. We had scallops and crab cakes! Ideal!
Wonderful place to eat, great surroundings, friendly staff. Most importantly, the food was delicious. We ordered lobster rolls, haddock and scallops, all were perfect. The salad that comes with lobster roll is amazing! I was told it's a house dressing, so yummy...
Best gourmet grilled cheese sandwich I have ever had hands down! Lovely little place by the docks with nice decor. Service was quick.
Great food; friendly attentive staff. Made for a great end to a long day, and a fantastic start to a wonderful evening.
Received a recommendation to eat here from a local and we had a great time/meal. We had seafood chowder, Rueben sandwich and haddock Persian vin blanc. Good chowder and haddock. Salad that came with the Rueben sandwich was delicious. Rueben was good too but the smoked roast beef was a tad too salty.
This modern, cozy establishment is home to what I call "Crack Cakes" or as the menu says, "Famous Blueberry Coconut Pancakes." If you decide to eat breakfast here, I oblige you to partake in a self-induced existential crisis through these wonderfully addicting cakes. Upon first bite you will repeatedly ask yourself, "Why am I here?", "What is my destiny?", "What is my meaning?" But upon your third and many bites thereafter these profound questions will be simply answered: Eat the pancakes, and never look back. As a side note, our server was fantastic and I loved the decor and music choice. 5/5 for sure!!!
So happy we stumbled across this restaurant. Food was great, atmosphere was fantastic, service was above average and price was reasonable. Definitely recommend if you're in town!
Top notch seafood available here...
A wonderful restaurant right off the warf in Baddeck. It came in as a recommendation to eat for supper. When looking on the outside it is a simple view, making the food the spotlight. I had the steamed mussels, and my wife had pan fried haddock. Both were cooked to perfection, not a second overcooked. The mussels were rich with a creamy garlic and butter sauce. The haddock light and full of wonderful flavour. While it is a small area and it can be busy it is worth the wait if you are able to get in.
Went twice on a weekend getaway. Great food and location
Great food, very cozy. Limited space, fills up fast on a Saturday night. Good amount of food for your money. I had the lobster roll, fabulous.
Had dinner there with my husband. We both had the burger and it was the best burger we've had in a very long time. The salad that came with it was also amazing!
One of our favourite restaurants in Baddeck. Nice cozy atmosphere in the old freight shed on the government wharf. The breakfast is the best and the coconut blueberry pancakes are a MUST try! Those alone are 5🥇! Friendly service as always!!
This has an understated elegant industrial chic decor - a kind of place where jeans and ball caps are next to suits and ties and neither is out of place. My sweetheart had: lobster roll and salad (that he still raving about) I had the apricot jam, jalapeno havarti & brie grilled cheese with winter squash soup and for as much as my sweetheart scoffed when he heard me order a grilled cheese is equal to how much he apologised later for scoffing. We shared a piece of carrot cake (the chef's special recipe) our wait-staff told us with a big smile. We make two of these every day during the summer and one day during the off season.
Excellent food and service. Mussels are delicious and so is the beer! 5 stars all the way.
Great burger and awesome salad. Wonder staff a beer selection. Beautiful restaurant.
I'm so mixed about this place. The service was a tad slow on a busy summer evening- that's ok but something to note. The mussels were outstanding (but a tad salty). The salads were very good and fresh. The fish chowder was good- lots of chunks of fish. The crab cakes had a nice bite to them. I hate that you're on the water but there's no outside seating or a view from inside. That has nothing to do with the food but again, something to note. It is wheelchair accessible. The staff is friendly.
The food here was delicious. It does get quite busy here so I suggest coming early. The location was beautiful and the place had a really nice modern design.
Tiny space, but quaint. I concur with others who suggest later closing on the weekend, in particular during peak tourist season. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and deliciously fresh food! Highly recommended, provided you arrive before 6, or after 9!
Great place. A little tight. Be prepared to wait a little as it's popular Saturday nights (I'd encourage them to stay open a little later Saturday nights as quite a few groups were turned away or left without getting a table). I had lobster roll which was really good. My wife had the black bean burger which was quite good and tasty and our son had the burger which he loved. I had a local beer (big spruce red ale?) and ordered a second... Something I never do. Great view as well as it's right on the harbour. Beautiful atmosphere. Love the open ceiling.
Amazing scallops & potatoes, blackened haddock also great! Rhubarb crisp okay, too much sauce so could not taste fruit. Flight of local beers very good.
Really nice location, beautiful views of the lake, wait staff was excellent, friendly and prompt. Food (breakfast) was tasty and filling.
A bit overpriced, but one needs to consider the location. The food is very good, the service is great. True there are other places to eat, but it's certainly worth the visit. The water views, the open ambience, the cozy atmosphere make it a must.
I had the mussels and a flight. I ordered the mussels because I didn’t want a huge meal but they give you a LOT and so I was pretty stuffed :). The choice of local brews to create a flight was satisfying. The servers were polite and welcoming without being cheesy or over-attentive. The sauce he mussels were in was a savoury cream sauce that was good and just slightly too salty for me. I would have added a bit more cream to it (or ease up on the salt/amount of stock). That being said, the mussels were cooked to perfection, not too chewy. I would go back.
The food here was delicious and the waitress was very kind! My only suggestion would be to more clearly mark vegan options on the menu. But wow, this soup was fantastic!
How much about the food because we didn't eat here but the location can't be beat right on the pier. The menu looked good, we just weren't hungry at the time
Delicious food & great service on the several occasions that I ate there.
We each started with a cup of chowder and were delighted with how good it was. Then we ordered a lobster roll and an order of scallops to split. Both were awesome. Bottom line, if you're not sure where to go in town, this should be the first place you try. Confirmed by many locals too!
The best food I had on the Cabot trail. Small cozy restaurant with some really nice waterfront views. Open kitchen so watch as the magic happens . The food was exquisite, the carrot cake was absolutely divine and came highly recommended by the table next to me , it did not disappoint! I was there on a Monday evening in September and it was packed with people waiting outside! Prepare your taste buds for a feast of flavours!
Two of us visited on Monday night, very buzzy at 8.00pm, but they managed to fit us in. Started with a flight of local beers, outstanding. My wife had the Lobster Roll and I had the smoked salmon bagel. Both were exceptional, and so much salmon! For dessert we share a piece of their homemade carrot cake. Throughout dinner the staff were amazing, a good knowledge of all the dishes and drinks and attentive to our every needs. The meal was so good we went back the next night for another great dinner.
This is THE place to eat at when in Baddeck, nothing else we tried comes even close!
We were travelling the Cabot Trail and decided to meet friends in Baddeck. We went to the Freight Shed for lunch. Incredible! The food was amazing! My husband who is a retired Executive Chef was so impressed with everything. We loved it and will go again.
Some of the best food and beer I’ve had in life. We had trouble finding satisfactory scallops on Cape Breton Island but finally after a week we found them here! I also. Had a burger which was one of the best I’ve had. Thank you Freight Shed!
Food is good. Prices can scare you back out the door though lolThe hamburgers are really good (quite small though for almost 16 dollars). A hamburger costs about $16.00 which does NOT include a beverage or side. Their general salad consists of mixed lettuce only, no vegetables. The building itself is cute. It's location is great, being right on the water however, there doesn't seem to be outdoor seating to take advantage of such a location.
Got seafood chowder and a lobster roll. Both were really good! Chowder was nice and creamy, and the roll had a good amount of lobster.
Great place. So glad we decided to eat here. On the way in the couple leaving told us we made a good decision - and they were right. The dinner was delicious and fresh; presentation was excellent; atmosphere was friendly and on trend; and it sits right at the dock. So many pluses here - seriously, check it out.
Amazing atmosphere and the food was top notch! Best place to eat in Cape Breton!
Wow, wow, wow. The food was amazing. My husband and I started with the mussels. We're shared 54 mussels in this to die for sauce. Then we shared our mains. The seared scallops are out of this world and the other main was a walnut cranberry encrusted halibut. All washed down with local beer and wine. Well that was a meal to remember in Baddeck, Nova Scotia.
Had the haddock and it was the most delicious meal of my vacation. The service was excellent. The vegetables and potatoes were perfect. I'm only sorry I missed out on desert due to food allergies. My wife's chicken Caesar salad was the best she ever had.
If you only have one dish order the chowder. Best chowder I've ever had. Beer and wine selection is very good.
The food is excellent. There are no reservations but it was apparent that certain seats and tables were being reserved for patrons that made prior arrangements with wait staff. We were told that a seat by the window was too hot only to see a couple seated there moments later and they obviously knew the server. We were not offered water and got the sense that our presence was not convenient. I will not go back.
Amazing food. Excellent service. Great atmosphere
This is probably the best seafood chowder we have had in the Maritimes!! Could not believe the amount of seafood in the chowder, almost needed a fork! We had breakfast here this morning and came back for dinner and we're even more impressed the second time. Omelette this morning was great, and dinner tonight was amazing (gourmet grilled cheese was delish)!! Ambience is perfect and prices are more than fair for the food you will have here. Don't miss this place!
Nice variety on the menu and great views from every seat. The place is a bit warm on hot days as I feel it isn’t properly ventilated. Still some air blowing in off he water but not enough. Friendly staff and great mussels.
Super tiny place with open kitchen right on the water. Food was amazing! Our group tried the chowder (so thick with seafood you could have eaten it with a fork), lobster roll (excellent), mussels (a huge portion, I almost couldn't get through it, and the sauce was to die for). It was so good we came back for dinner the very next night: scallops (in my top 3 scallops I've had while travelling) and haddock (also very good but I'm running out of adjectives). Beer selection was great too, a selection from Big Spruce Brewery just up the road.
Best Haddock I've had. Wife had the scallops which were superb. Cute place, but don't even think of going with a large party.
